It was Millbrook who secured the win in Saturday’s Hampshire Premiership fixture at Parsonage Barn Lane, but the big crowd supporting both sides enjoyed a thrilling afternoon’s rugby.
We started the stronger and built up a 12-0 lead through tries from both wing three quarters Josh Rowntree and Matt Raybould along with a conversion from fullback Chris Frost. Millbrook fought back with a converted try, but we were still dominant until we conceded two sloppy yellow cards. Millbrook took full advantage of their two-man advantage scoring two further converted tries to go in with a 21-12 lead at the break.
The second half was just as exciting as the first. Chris Frost initially reduced the deficit with a penalty kick before lock forward Jamie Seymour scored a good try. Josh Rowntree then crossed for his second try, but not before Millbrook had scored a further two tries. Trailing 31-25 we pressed hard in the dying moments and were rewarded with a well taken try from centre Lewys John, but the conversion went wide and we had to settle for two losing bonus points.
