Fifty-five U7’s playing great rugby together!

As a coach, I always approach joint training sessions with a (slight) sense of trepidation. What will the visiting kids be like? Will their coaches be onboard and help out?

I’m very pleased to say that Eastleigh were a joy to host! Their kids were skilled players and respected the Core Values of rugby - and their coaches were receptive to our methods, and brought suggestions of their own. A perfect joint session!!

I still can't believe the orderly queues for hot dogs!! :)

After some initial warm-ups and drills, we moved to the main attraction - ERRFC vs Eastleigh. With so many kids (we had 55 players!), it’s difficult to physically fit them all onto pitches to play matches, so we made three match pitches and a fourth game/drill pitch.

I was really impressed with the playing skills of all the kids, both ERRFC and Eastleigh. Some great attacking runs trying to blast through solid defensive lines. I know I’m biased, but I think we shaded all the matches - which is brilliant!!

Thinking back to the start of the season, when a “proper” rugby ball seemed such a leap from an U6’s foam ball, it’s so pleasing to see how far our players have come, and they’re all turning into little rugby players - the future looks bright, very bright :)

Trophies.
It gets harder and harder each week to pick trophy winners. The relative skills gap narrows week on week, and it’s now really hard to pick winners.

For some great running and playing in the true spirit of rugby, this week, Scarey goes to Joey Camp. Well done, Joey!

Our trophy winner has been bubbling away, get better and better, week on week, so it’s only fitting that after a storming week playing superbly well in the matches, this week’s winner is Alfie Brown. Well done, Alfie!!

With so many kids in our group, and more joining week after week - we have a slight problem (and it’s a very nice problem to have). We could really do with some more helpers, specifically coaches. If you’re interested in helping out with coaching the sessions, please speak to me, Andy, after a session, or send me an email/message. I’d be very pleased to speak to you, even if you can only offer a bit of time here and there :)
