Overton Spring Cup - U8's on fire, again!

Overton RFC's Spring Cup is an unusual event in that the overall winner's trophy goes to a club based on overall results rather than trophies per age group - which is a nice twist, especially as E&R believe in the 'one club' philosophy. We didn't manage the overall win, congrats to our neighbours, Fordingbridge, for that!

U8's gave it their all with some superb rugby - strong defence, amazing attacking but above all, outstanding teamwork! Core Values through and through.

Some of our opponents have clearly been ignoring RFU age guidelines and working on their contact skills early (the padded undershirts and coach's 'never hurt me at that age' attitude are giveaways) but we battled on regardless and outplayed our opponents to score try after try.

Our only loss of the day was against Gosport & Fareham, who also beat us at New Milton in October - but they're the only side who have managed that feat all season. And if the ref had pushed them back 7m at the restarts as per the rules, we would probably have scored another couple of tries to take that match too... But we don't dwell on these things (much, honest).

Gosport & Fareham drew one of their matches, but their win over us let them take the leader spot in our competition with us as incredibly close Runners Up.

I sound like a broken record sometimes, but I was so proud of how the kids played, not only their skill but their attitude and behaviour stood them above all others - moral winners if not actual winners. They really are great role models for kids, and such brilliant ambassadors for the club - the increase in fixture requests are proof indeed!
