ERRFC Colts edge a tightly fought contest

Ellingham & Ringwood Colts turned up at Totts Colts following an excellent win over Fordingbridge full of confidence, however a spirited and passionate Totts team proved very difficult to overcome. From the kick off Ellingham were camped in the Totts half, but strong Totts defence meant little progress was made. However Ellingham kept plugging away and eventually Totts conceded a penalty for a high tackle. Zach Morrish put it into the corner for a lineout on the 5m line. Jamie Tunnicliff over-threw the front jumper (something which he later claimed was part of the master plan) as No8 Josh Galton gathered up the ball and crashed over for the first try of the game. An excellent conversion attempt from the 15m line by Zach Morrish agonisingly hit the post!
The next 20 mins found both side trying to dominate the opposition but unfortunately the final pass from Ellingham went astray multiple times spurning good chances. Totts also lost a player to a yellow card for a high tackle. With half time approaching Totts started to gain some ground, and a kick ahead followed by an excellent chase meant Ellingham were under pressure and conceded multiple penalties. From the last of these Totts spun the ball to the right and scored in the corner, but were unable to make the conversion.

Half Time - ERRFC Colts 5 - 5 Totts Colts

Early in the second half Totts lost another player to a yellow card and Ellingham started to get the upper hand. Josh Rose stole a lineout from Totts, the ball was spun out wide and Oscar Churchill made good ground, from the breakdown the ball was spun back the other way and the forwards carried through a number of good phases, making ground. Ben Price then broke through and offloaded the ball to Tommy Boland who sprinted under the posts from 20m. Zach Morrish made the conversion.
Ellingham kept the pressure on and Totts were struggling to exit from their 22, Jamie made an excellent turn over, and Totts infringed at the next breakdown giving away a penalty. Rather than putting it into the corner Ben Price had a rush of blood to the head and took a quick tap penalty, followed by a chip ahead!! The collective groan from the coaching staff, followed by a "what has he done, that is the worst decision ever" was quickly replace with jubilation, as by some miracle Ben sprinted past the defensive line, saw the ball take a nice bounce in his direction, and he pounced on it for the score. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
Unfortunately Zach was unable to convert.
Totts were dogged opposition and never gave up, they came back at Ellingham who lost Josh Rose to another yellow card. This allowed Totts to exert more pressure on the Ellingham line. They took the ball through multiple cycles, which saw excellent defence, with some great tackles being put in, notably by Isaac Churchill, but eventually Jack (who had volunteered to play the 2nd half for them to even numbers) crashed over for a try which they converted.
This lead to a very nervous final 10 mins, but Ellingham were able to hold out and claim the win.
