Es suffer a heavy loss to Tiffs

Mark Johnson18 Dec - 18:48

Tough day for a young side

The Raymond Brown Memorial Ground was bathed in winter sunshine to welcome their opponents Old Tiffinnians which was a pleasant change from the deluge of rain that led to the previous match being postponed. The home team had to make some changes and sadly before kick off lost influential player Lewis Reeves to injury meaning there was only two players on the bench.

The opening exchanges were fiercely contested and Ellingham and Ringwood were holding their own against a well drilled team, who in the seventh minute following a misjudged kick from full back Zach Morrish landed kindly in the arms of his opposite number Andrew Day who dived in the corner to score the first try of the game although the kick at goal could not be converted. Old Tiffinnians were playing an expansive game of rugby and in the 13th minute their winger Josh Clough sprinted over the line to score and this time their centre Sharif Dougramaji slotted his kick between the uprights. Ellingham, despite their efforts could not stop the flow of scores and in the 19th minute they scored another try with Dougramaji making his conversion. Then in the 24th minute Andrew Day was able to double his try scoring efforts to extend the away teams lead and three minutes later Josh Clough got his second try of the game showing good speed to elude the efforts of the home team's defence.

Day who won the man of the match award glided over for his hat trick of tries to further extend his team's lead with Dougramaji who was successful with his kick. To finish of the first half Clough matched his teammate with a hat trick of tries to make the half time score 43 - 0 in favour of the away team.

Unfortunately for Ellingham despite their concerted efforts in the second half they could not trouble the scoreboard and the opposition ran in a further three tries one scored by Joshua Graham playing at number eight and another by Maximillian Talman playing in the centres who had a very good game to make the final score Ellingham & Ringwood 0 - Old Tiffinnians 62. The opposition awarded Ellingham's hooker Ted Johnson as their player of the match who was a constant threat in the lose and put in several tackles as did flanker Ryan Kearn who also played well.

Ellingham will have to lick their wounds and bounce back to play their last game of 2025 when they make the short trio to Totton to play Tottonians next Saturday.
