What a great performance and even better result from our u15 Girls team in the first round of the RFU cup away to Havant. The girls beat the Havant side by a whopping 102-0! (Although I understand the official result will sit as 50-0 due to the competition rules.)
The girls started well from a great initial kick off putting Havant under pressure on their own line early on. This was quickly translated into a try under the posts by Phoebe Jones which was then converted by Georgia Lang. From that moment the team never looked back and although the tries were too numerous to list, they were spread evenly throughout the side and were scored through a mixture of power, speed and guile. Ellingham dominated every aspect of the game, ensuring good constructive possession and great phases of play. On the rare occasions that Havant were in possession of the ball they were swiftly knocked backwards and exceptional work at the breakdown by our forward pack ensured we were quickly back on the front foot. The interplay and hard running from the forwards was exceptional and so was the decision making to transfer the ball to the backs. Some direct, powerful running led to many tries out wide as the Ellingham girls spread the play expertly.
Many thanks to all the girls who played today and demonstrated what an impressive team we will make this season. Special mention to Casey Vines who made her debut and scored a try in her first ever competitive rugby match!
