Our under 15's girl's made a winning start in the RFU Cup Group stages away at Winchester on Sunday. They started strongly with two early tries from Number 8 Niamh Fry, both of which were converted by Alex Avoth, who delivered another fantastic kicking display, kicking six conversions in total.
On a wet pitch both sides played some entertaining and physical rugby. By the halfway stage we led by 40 points to nil with two tries from scrum half Alice Wood and fly half Alex Avoth. Winchester however showed great determination and responded with three tries before late tries from Niamh Fry and centre Sophie Wilding sealed a 52-17 victory. The match was a great advert for girls Rugby and the victory was reward for a fantastic team performance. The forwards recycled the ball well with the front row of Jess Gollop, Kim Hearn and Tessa Lovatt leading from the front with the second row forwards , Gabi Griffiths and Tilly Russell making important breaks throughout the game. The backs had plenty of the ball and the tries resulted from great running and handling by three quarters Maisy Maloney and Molly Barnett.
Our next fixture is a friendly at home to Trojans on Sunday 25 November. This is followed by our next RFU CUP group games away to Towcesterians and home to Fullerians. TOur girls will be hoping they can emulate last years successful journey to the regional final which they drew 27-27 against Old Albanians.
Our under 15's girls are still recruiting players of all standards and experience. Training is on Wednesday nights between 7pm and 8pm and matches are on Sunday afternoons. If you are interested in playing and being part of this successful team please email Jason Wilding at wilding511@btinternet.com
