County cup fixture vs Reading at PBL
ERRFC 42 V 29 READING
Well here we go again ( finally) , today was a day of firsts for our u15s , 1st match post covid , 1st game together as a team , 1st match on a full size pitch ,1st time having positions and did it show? Heck no they were Fab !
Being a balmy September afternoon we decided on 4, 15min quarters.
Losing the toss we are sent out to kick .
Reading got going fast and took advantage of a rather static Ellingham who were tackling ferociously but not dynamically, letting Reading run at us and find the gaps allowed them a 4 try advantage by the end of the 1st quarter the score stood at 0 v 22 Reading .
After an inspiring talk from the captain and some well needed experience from the bench ERRFC stormed back out on the pitch scoring almost immediately and slotting the conversion 7 v 22 .
Lots of clever play and a shuffle of positions saw us settle and dig in , using our runners and playmakers we scored another couple of times each one converted from the tee. 21 v 22
There was no stopping us now , loops , offloads, battering ram runs all culminated in points and metronomic kicking from our kickers secured a 42 v 22 end of the 2nd quarter .
The 3rd quarter started well for Reading getting in behind our defense and dotting down , this time conversion was good
42 v 29 .
Unfortunately due to a couple of injuries we decided to call the game there .
Reading were well matched opponents for us, and a great bunch of Girls, Coaches and parents, and every player had a great game . Thoroughly enjoyable to watch and very proud of how the team dug deep and got a result.
Best wishes to the injured players and hope they make a full and speedy recovery .
Cant wait for the next one , onwards and upwards.
