Spin it wide, enjoy the ride...with a cherry on top - a true team performance

Sundays game took ERRFC U15Gs to our true capital city Winchester, for a county cup fixture.

The game got off to an energetic buzz with the ERRFC Girls playing right to left in the first half, an early break saw Capt Millicent Curtis dot down for the first score of the day.
Ellingham were quickly looking for more points with some line breaking runs and offloads only to be kept back by some good tacking from Winchester. Persistence paid off and a good ball to the wing sent Lara Hicks off on a great solo run to score , conversion slotted by Zoe Hansen 0 v 12.
Winchester, not laying down, set up an attack of their own getting into ERRFCs 22 and looking like they would score only to be denied by some strong defence and successful rucking.
It didnt take long for Ellingham to go back on the offensive working the way up the pitch and probing the Winchester line, the inevitable score came with a close range show of power from Lydia Calais. 0 v 17.
A few scrummages and breakdowns later saw ERRFC at the 5m line where Kit Anten charged through the opposition like a wrecking ball on a bowling alley, points from the tee too from Zoe Hansen. 0 v 24
A rampant run from Lucy Wagland cut through Winchesters defence making a slick offload and safely gathered in the capable hands of Romilly Lewis the move was finished like a nice cake , cherry on top ,score 0v29
The last scoring attack of the half completed a brace of tries for Lara H and consisted of a strong run from outside the opposition 22 bobbing and weaving to the line 0 v 34

The 2nd half was much of the same , quicker up in defence than previous games, Ellingham kept the pressure on, nullifying the attacks of Winch and turning opportunity into points .
A massive run from half way ,centre Lucy W powered her way to 5 points in style, extras collected from the boot of Capt Millicent 0 v 41
Winchester were far from finished and put together some great attacks of their own, nearly crossing the whitewash several times but unfortunately not quite making it.
Clever midfield play and some fantastic work keeping the ball alive culminated in another try from Lucy W converted by the steady boot of Capt Curtis 0 v 48 .
One more score would seal the win for Ellingham and Ringwood and just as she started the game she finished it the same way , Captain Millicent Curtis scoring and converting her own efforts .
With only a few minutes left and age grade regulation stating at 50 points difference the game is to be finished and awarded to the highest scoring team , we changed the team up and played out the final few minutes to make sure everybody got involved , Winchester didnt lose heart or let their heads go down all game and looked dangerous at several points , there were 2 more tries scored before the final whistle , another from Lydia C with an individual piece of excellence , conversion by Capt Curtis and a short range text book forwards try from 2nd row Lula Rees, driving across the line like the Coca Cola truck on Christmas Eve

Final score 0 v 50

ERRFC would like to thank Winchester RFC for their hospitality and for playing the game in great spirits and embodying the core values of our sport.
