A great day

Sunday was game day number 1 for our new U13 squad.

14 of our girls : Elle B, Kitty T, Millicent C, Alexis B, Abby N, Lula R, Lola S, Emma F, Sophia T, Romilly L, Lara H, Sophie P, Ellie J and Belle J , travelled up to Basingstoke for their first waterfall tournament. The Girls u13's rugby is based on having fun and playing rugby with your mates...they certainly did that...

Game 1 vs Havant : The rain kindly decided to ease off just in time for kick off, the Girls were clearly out sized in this game by some of the Havant players. Unperturbed the girls cracked on and after conceding an early try fought back to bring the score to one all which was held until the final play which Havant sneaked over again for the winner. Score 1v2

Game 2 vs Basingstoke: With the weather still holding the girls took to the field to play the Hosts. More evenly matched in size and first game nerves out of the way the girls got off to a flyer using all their skills in the tool box to get a lead on their opponents. Still early on the girls unleashed their kickers and took Basingstoke by surprise . Scoring twice more and only conceding 1 made this their first win. Score 3v1

Game 3 vs Alton: With Alton only having 7 players we played a smaller sided game with rolling subs, Last years' U13 have built a nice relationship with the Alton girls due to us joining forces on several occasions but no love was lost as they got going. With the extra space on the pitch it was no surprise that this game produced 9 tries. Lots of handling skills were on show here and given the conditions not much was lost forward. Naturally it started raining again, not water this time, but tries. The game ended 5v4 to us . Score 5v4

Game 4 vs Trojans: As always the Team love to play Trojans and are well matched with previous games being thrillers, Sunday was no exception. Now brimming with confidence the girls were well and truly up for it, the tackling was ferocious from get go and never let up, working hard at the breakdowns and keeping on the pressure, tries were flowing thick and fast. Moments of individual skill combined with a concerted team effort got them through on top taking a convincing win . Score 5v1

A special mention for the new Year 7s, as I was super impressed how they dealt with the bigger stronger players, heart is everything and they have bucket loads of it.

Well done all the girls involved , great start to the season. We are now looking forward to playing Havant Girls u13's again next Sunday starting at 13:00.

Yours in rugby....Roving Rugby Reporter Dave
