Sunday is game day...

Sunday as always was game day and this time, we avoided waterlogged pitches and headed for Havant for a County Waterfall event

Even with a number of players unavailable for different reasons, we took 16 players to Havant

Team :
Elle B, Lydia C, Molly L, Maisie J, Alexis B, Millicent C, Lara H, Emma F, Lola S, Lola M, Lula R, Jaz B, Sophia T, Kitty T, Ellie J & Belle J

After a well respected 2 minute silence for Remembrance Sunday, the Girls kicked off their festival with a resounding 6-0 win against Basingstoke before the big-match of the day against Havant.

Due to the weather, we had limited space at Havant so with narrow pitches, we knew it would be a tough battle with our arch rivals with no room to spin it wide to our speedsters. The first half was a real battle and there were ferocious tackles, rucks and mauls from both sides. After trailing 2-0 for most of the game we ended up losing 4-0 as Havant scored 2 late tries as we tried to run the ball from all parts

We then played our friends from Trojans who were short of players. We lent Trojans a couple of players and then had a great, well contested game, that ended up 1-1

This left us with two game to play. We played a combined Eastleigh and Reading team and won 3-2 and then played Newbury and Fareham and won 3-1. Both games were played in the right spirit and we stuck to the half game rule and ensured we had great fun

The highlight for me was some our younger/newer players both scoring tries and tackling well, gaining both confidence and parental rewards along the way

I also liked Gareth’s new approach to warms ups. During a slight delay due to an injury on the other pitch, Gareth based his (stay) warm ups on the funky chicken and the macarena. I did not know Gareth could move so well.

A special mention to Alexis who not only won Player of the Week but also showed great respect by checking on an oppositions injured player and to Kitty Taylor who missed one game through injury but came back to score a well-deserved try

Well done to all 16 girls and thank you to all parents for their support and photos that showed what a fun rugby day we had

Dave is back next time so watch this space for his report
