Club devastated by break in and theft

Friends, I’m saddened to share the following news with you. Overnight Monday the Club was broken into, with thieves forcing their way in through the cellar door.
Following a hugely successful Junior Touch Tournament and Presentation Day on Sunday, and Hooley Festival on Saturday, a sum of cash was taken which was awaiting banking and earmarked for our current refurbishment work. In addition, a collection box for the RFU Injured Player Welfare Fund that was collected during the Hooley Festival on Saturday was taken. This is devastating news for us as a Rugby Family, especially as it’s hard to get over the fact that money is rarely kept on premises and only when we consider it to be safer than any alternative prior to banking!
The hard reality is that this represents a substantial loss for the club and has associated costs due to the need to replace the cellar door. This, at a time, when we have been fundraising to improve our community facilities. We are now in a position where we will need to determine if there are aspects of the current refurbishment work that need to be pushed back because of this heinous crime.
Our volunteers work so hard to raise money for the Club and good causes close to us and you my friends support, work tirelessly and put in many hours to help. When we get knocked back, we stand together, we are stronger together, and the individuals responsible for this will never get the better of us.
To recoup our losses, we have started a Club Refurbishment Funding page. I had held off this as we have worked endlessly over the last 12 months to raise money and get donations of time and materials to allow us to complete the work prior to the start of next season without a direct appeal for financial support. However with the events of this week, regrettably I and the committee feel we need to ask for some additional support to allow us to complete the work as planned for the start of the Women’s World Cup on the 22nd August.
