Ellingham & Ringwood had a busy day at their club house with an excellent ex-players lunch prior to the kick off with food supplied by the Fish Inn and we welcomed Twickenham dignitaries John & Joan who enjoyed their pre-game lunch and as they were the performance of their team.
Prior to the kick off both teams respectively held a minutes silence for the recent loss of Ex-Ellingham player Billy Budd, RIP.
The long trip to Ringwood did not deter the visiting team hitting their stride from the kick off after only two minutes of play their second-row player Louie Banks smashed through a leaky defence to score allowing scrum half Alex Stagg an easy conversion chance which he duly slotted over. Ellingham could not get into the game and just three minutes later Twickenham's fullback Archie Laird was to get the first of his three tries and again Stagg was able to convert. The blitz continued when in the 11th minute Nicholas Smith playing at number 8 who was the stand out player in the first game bulldozed his way over for another converted try. Then the other second row player Richard Moses for Twickenham got in on the act scoring their fourth try in the 16th minute again Stagg was able to convert. Not content with already earning a bonus point Twickenham kept the pressure on the home team and prop Frazer Gibson smashed through for a try in the 20th minute. Before the end of the first of half Twickenham ran in a further three tries with Laird getting another try and Stagg was able to convert two of his kicks. This made the half time score Ellingham & Ringwood 0 - Twickenham 54.
Ted Johnson got a yellow card in the first half for kicking the ball away in a ruck which made the home teams job even harder and later on in the pub his father Mark pointed out that he only received one yellow card in the entirety of his playing career.
The second half was a daunting task for the home to try and salvage something from the game which they did by getting two unconverted tries one from Tyler Grant playing on the left wing who replaced Chris Frost who had to be removed from the field of play and a second one from stand in captain playing at number 8 George Randall. These were both scored at the SPECSAVERS end of the ground which gave the home crowd something to cheer about. Unfortunately for the home team Twickenham ran in a further four tries with Laird completing his hat trick, centre Louis Boyd nabbing one and winger William Hellel getting another and Stagg converting two of his conversions.
The final result was Ellingham & Ringwood 10 - Twickenham 80. The injury curse that has blighted Ellingham all season struck again with Callum Newitt just returning from injuring his right shoulder ended up doing his left should during the game rendering him being out for the rest of the season. Ellingham travel to Bournemouth next Saturday hoping for a better display and welcoming some players back to squad.
