The recent success of Ellingham's 2nd XV led a few to think Sherborne could be put away in the first half. Things got off to a strong start with Jordan Barnett aka Meatball crashing over for a well worked try. Unfortunately our dynamic 6 was carried off with a broken ankle in the second half.
Sherborne fought back throughout the match and it was on a knifedge at half-time: 14-12 to the Es.
Ellingham crept ahead in the second half, despite being reduced at one point to 13 men with two yellows, with further tries from Matt Coombes and Penn Cox - well converted by Harry Wescott kicking right to left. At 21-12 the game looked in the bag when Sherborne's fly-half spotted a defensive error by Ellingham and darted through to score under the posts.
Hatty Wescott nearly converted a drop kick from open play but Sherborne kept the home crowd on their toes until, mercifully, the final whistle signalled another victory for Ellingham.
